About Mitch
Hi, I'm Mitch Hislop—a technologist with a business degree and a passion for solving the kinds of problems that sit at the intersection of business and technology. I've spent over a decade working in digital, and today, I lead the digital team at broadhead, a full-service agency focused on agriculture, transportation, and food. My job is about connecting brand vision with business outcomes, and I get to do that by leading an amazing group of talented people who deliver creative, data-driven solutions every day.

Before broadhead, I worked at Total Expert as a Data Engineer. There, I helped shape the company's product analytics and data engineering strategy—which is a fancy way of saying I tried to make data easier to use and understand. One of the things I'm proudest of was launching the first operational metrics that served both our clients and our internal teams, and contributing to a predictive model that’s still central to their Customer Intelligence product.
Prior to that, I was Vice President of Marketing Technology at Augeo. My role involved hands-on work across analytics, email, and digital engagement for some pretty big brands. I’ve always enjoyed combining strategic thinking with the technical details—developing campaigns and solutions that made an impact. And sometimes, that meant getting my hands dirty in code, scaling PHP-based platforms to handle tens of millions of pageviews. This was the end of a road that started at fjorge, and went through Wingnut, resulting in my time at Augeo.
In short, I love creating solutions that help people, and I've been lucky enough to work across different parts of the digital landscape—from engineering and analytics to strategy and campaign management.
Key Skills (Without the Buzzwords)
- Data and Analytics: I like making data make sense—building infrastructure that turns information into action. I’ve used tools like SQL, Python, and various BI platforms to do that.
- Digital Strategy: I’ve led campaigns with significant ad spends and managed to find ways to drive real growth for the brands I’ve worked with.
- Product Development: I've helped design systems that focus on real user needs—whether that means integrating new features, like SMS messaging, or rebuilding something from scratch to make it better.
- Team Leadership: I’ve led cross-functional teams, hired great people, and built a culture that aims to support growth—both for the business and for the individuals on the team.
- AI: I’ve been actively working with artificial intelligence tools to enhance productivity, optimize workflows, and drive creative problem-solving across projects
Education
I graduated from Hamline University School of Business with a degree in Business, focusing on Marketing, and a minor in Political Science. I’m also an Eagle Scout—something that taught me a lot about dedication, community, and resilience. Over the years, I’ve picked up some certifications along the way, including Google Analytics and HubSpot. I’ve even had a chance to speak at a few events about digital strategy and the changing landscape of data-driven business.
Personal Life
Outside of work, I love to explore the outdoors—cycling, hiking, and camping are some of my favorite ways to recharge. I’m also a gamer and an amateur radio enthusiast, which keeps me thinking creatively and solving new kinds of problems. Whether it's a side project that expands my technical skills or finding a new mountain to climb, I'm always up for a challenge.
